Sports Day 2008
Wed 2 Jul, 2008
Our athletes posted some great individual and team results in this year’s Sports Day at Bath University’s Sports Village on Wednesday this week. The inclement weather failed to dampen the spirits of the spectators, who provided constant encouragement for the runners, jumpers and throwers. There was a very enjoyable atmosphere of friendly sporting rivalry on and off the track. The world class facilities at the university, the first class organisation by the PE Department and the expert officialdom of our guests from the Amateur Athletics Association (AAA) made for a memorable day.
The overall House competition was deservedly won by DuPré, who maintained a small lead in the points total throughout the day. Towards the end Wollstonecraft mounted a late challenge with stunning performances in the sprint relays. All four Houses came top in at least one of the Year Group points totals. Seven new school records were achieved as follows:
Year 7: Cliona McKenna 800mts 2.42.6; Georgina Cornish 1500mts 6.01.05;
Year 8: Rachel Li Discus 16.44;
Year 9: Laura Smith 200mts 27.5; Laura Seal 800mts 2.33.5; Natalie Seagrove Long Jump 4.56;
Year 10: Naomi Webber 1500mts 5.26.1
