These are exciting times for the Royal High School, a GDST (Girls' Day School Trust) institution in an enviable location overlooking Bath. It was formed in 1998 by the merger of two older schools, the Bath Royal and the High School, and is now re-inventing itself yet again to adapt to changing times. The sixth form has metamorphosed into a sixth-form college, with boys - only 11 so far, although that number is set to rise - admitted for the first time. With the newly introducted International Baccalaureate also generating a buzz among staff and pupils alike, there is a palpable sense of optimism at a school previously at risk of languishing in the comfort zone. The school is non-denominational, but aspires to guide its pupils on "a spiritual journey". There is a separate junior school
