Welcome to the Royal High School, Bath

Our Infants

No two days are ever the same in the Early Years department. Although we do, of course, have a timetable and a set curriculum we can never be quite sure where the day will lead us. Children have a multitude of interests and questions to ask; Where does a tadpole’s tail go? Was everything in black and white when you were young? What is God? Who invented ice cream? These are just a few of the questions the girls of The Royal High School have been known to ask.

The Early Years department covers pupils aged 3-7years. This includes the Foundation Stage (the Nursery and Reception classes) and Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2). Each of these areas has a set curriculum but we offer our girls a much wider and more varied range of opportunities, including weekly French, Ballet, Drama, Gymnastics/PE, Swimming and much more. We have all the facilities of the school at our fingertips and toes, including a super Music room and a well-equipped Gym as well as beautiful grounds that allow us to take time out and keep in touch with the changing seasons. Spotting the first snowdrops and listening to the robin singing are all part of everyday life.

There is a feeling, in the school, of belonging to one large family and the children are encouraged to have respect for others, whether older or younger than themselves.

Each child in Reception to Year 2 has a ‘Book Friend’ or reading partner in Year 6 and they meet up once a week to share a book together. This partnership is enjoyed by both the younger children and the older girls and usually spills out into playtime activities, leading to long-term friendships on some occasions. We are also lucky to have sixth form students who come to help, thus forming a link throughout the whole school.
