Year 6 Visit to Tutankamun Exhibition
Tue 29 Jan, 2008
In 1972 over 1.8 million people went to see Tutankhamun’s treasures when the exhibition visited London. It was the most successful exhibition in the capital's history. Now, after more than 30 years it has returned to the UK for a limited period at The O2 Bubble in London. It was a fantastic opportunity to take the girls to see this wonderful exhibition, as we have been studying Ancient Egypt as one of our history topics; the life of everyday people, food and farming, Pharaohs, the life of the rich, the geography of the area, and the pyramids. The artefacts were so much more luminous in real life (rather than text books) and it brought the subject to life for the girls and staff. It is hard to believe how old they were and how advanced the arts/ crafts and technology were and of course what a complex religious life they observed. We were also able to see Westminster, Big Ben, The London Eye etc. lit up which was lovely. Quotes: Lauren Puntis, 6H “It was one of the best trips I’ve ever been on” Felicity Gibson 6H: “It was the experience of a lifetime” Katehrine Moar, 6H: “There were enough treasures to fill my room” Thea Grattidge, 6H: “It was an amazing opportunity and we all loved it!”
Do see the photos of the amazing ancient Egyptian head dresses worn by two of our students.
