Pupils Gear Up for Festival Date
From The Bath Chronicle Thu 14 May, 2009
Primary school children from across Bath will be taking part in the opening night procession of the city's international music festival. Dozens of youngsters will be parading through the city centre next week with their specially made sculptures to celebrate the festival's theme of Whales and Sea Life. Year 5 pupils at the Royal High Junior School took part in a workshop with local artist Mel Day to create a colourful jellyfish, using natural and recycled materials. He said: "The procession is great fun for the children and it really gets them interested in the festival. It's a wonderful community event. The children have been very enthusiastic about the whole thing and it is pleasing to see so many of them exploring their own ideas and experimenting." The festival's opening party, which begins with the procession from the Assembly Rooms to the Abbey, will take place on Friday 22 May.
