Clean sweep for Royal High in first ever Aqauthon event
Wed 17 Jun, 2009
Our Year 5 & 6 teams performed outstandingly in the Independent Schools Aquathon Championships held at Stonar School today. They were competing against 14 other schools from across the region in an event that comprises a 200 metre swim, followed immediately by a 1 kilometre run.
First up were the Year 5 team, comprising Beth Jolley, Alex Hayman, Isabelle Philpotts, Alice Pugsley and Imogen Selley . The team put in a very strong performance to earn a well deserved third place, with great individual achievements by Alex (swimming) and Beth (running), who posted the fastest times of the day.
Our Year 6 team ( Charlotte Penney, Sophie Langman, Isabel Dickinson and Kathini Logut) have even more cause for celebration, eclipsing all 14 rival schools, with a breathtaking clean sweep of all four individual places in the competition, with Charlotte crowned as the overall individual champion. As the girls put in the fastest four times on both the swimming and running events, it meant they had notched up maximum points for the competition; a really stunning achievement.
Miss Elsley is justly proud of what the girls have achieved; a real sporting triumph for The Royal High Juniors.
