Our Nursery
The Nursery is accredited by Ofsted with regular inspections taking place. We achieved “The Bristol Standard”, a quality assurance scheme for the Early Years, in July 2007.
All children are special and parents want their children to have the best possible start. At the Royal High School we provide a stimulating and caring environment for our 3 and 4 year olds that builds on the children’s loving and caring home background and the child’s natural curiosity and creativity. We provide a day which is always enjoyable, usually fun and which gently helps nurture the child’s independence, social skills, confidence and academic understanding, preparing each child for the transition to full time education.
We are registered to accommodate up to 24 children in each session. There are 2 sessions per day with 10 in a full week. Parents can choose how many sessions their daughter attends, with 3 per week being the minimum. Children normally build up to full-time in their last term of Nursery before they start “real” school.

The Nursery itself is extremely spacious and light with separate areas for different activities and extra rooms for quiet small group work.
Routines such as the Register, Snack Time, Special Helpers, and Today’s Leader are a daily occurrence to provide stability and help new children settle quickly and securely. Each Nursery session is carefully planned to appeal to the individual levels of confidence and independence, being challenging to those who feel confident and secure, and yet, not overwhelming to our newest members.
A caring team, led by a qualified teacher, plan the day to ensure we utilise staff’s expertise on a 1:1 and small groups basis. This enables us to provide that highly important individual contact. Our aim is to make sure that everyone makes progress in all areas of learning. Where they have strengths we will extend them, in areas that they find difficult we will always aim to provide the appropriate support.
