Keeping in Touch
Our parents rightly place a high value on regular communication and contact with our Nursery School team. Some of this happens on an informal basis at drop off and pick up times. But parents and other carers arrange an appointment for a private conversation whenever the need arises. In addition, we hold open coffee mornings each term where you can come in to have a chat about your daughter and find out more about her learning and how she is progressing.
It is, of course, important for your daughter’s welfare and your own peace of mind that you should let us know of any concerns or queries you have, particularly if she is worried or upset. We will always do our best to make things right for her.
You will be invited to a curriculum information evening at the start of the school year which outlines our schemes of work and explains how we plan our sessions to help each one of our young learners to develop the skills and confidence they will need to fulfil their potential.
Each week the school newsletter is issued to all families. Parents may choose to have this by email or hard copy.
Special Occasions
We welcome parents and carers to Nursery School events throughout the year.
These typically include:
- Harvest Festival in October
- Nursery School Nativity
- Ballet watch at the end of each term
- “Friday” assembly – usually in the Spring term
- Open afternoon – Summer term
- Nursery School Sports Day – usually held at the Senior School (further up Lansdown Road) in the Summer term
Class Representatives
Class Reps are members of the parent body, from the Nursery School, through to the Senior School who volunteer to be the link between parents and school. They meet socially and also organise events for the children out of school. They provide another valuable link between home and school.
The Friends of The Royal High School
All parents and carers are automatically members of The Friends. The elected committee members organise fundraising and social events throughout the year to which all are invited to support.
Reports
You will receive a written report on your daughter’s progress twice a year, in February and July.
Your Daughter’s Health
The Royal High School nurse Sister Greene and her relief, Sister Spence are based on the nearby Senior School site. Along with our qualified first aiders they advise on any first aid issues. They are available to help with any health related concerns or emergencies and will prepare a health plan for any children with medical conditions. If you have any general health concerns about your daughter, your GP is the person most able to provide appropriate advice. However, if you have any anxieties about your daughter’s health that may affect her while she is at school, we would be happy to discuss them with you and provide any necessary help and support. If your daughter has a chronic health problem, suffers from a prolonged illness or has to be admitted to hospital, it is helpful if you let us know. We can then offer her appropriate support on her return to Nursery.
If it is necessary for your daughter to bring emergency medicine to school, please note the following procedure:
- Medicine is to be given to Nursery School staff personally.
- Written confirmation of dose and time is essential.
- Medicine must be sent in the original container (not re-packaged or re-labelled) including the prescriber’s instructions for administration.
- Arrangements for collection of the medicine at the end of the day must be clearly stated.
