About Us: Individual Needs

SEN and EAL students

There is a dedicated department to provide for the needs of every student. This includes overseas students for whom English is an Additional Language (EAL), as well as students diagnosed with specific learning difficulties.

We have three part-time peripatetic teachers who are dyslexia specialists, (one of whom is our Special Educational Needs Coordinator - SENCo), who provide lessons on a termly basis. Each student has a programme tailored to their specific needs, with an emphasis, from Year 10 and above, on revision techniques and study skills. We aim to minimise the disruption to the pupils' timetables, by trying to arrange lessons during break, lunch-times and free periods. Progress reports are sent home twice a year.

For new EAL students in years 7-11, we provide four lessons per fortnight, given by our EAL specialist, in place of one of the timetabled foreign languages.

In addition, the SENCo can be contacted by email or in person by any student who needs advice or help with their academic studies and study skills problems.

Gifted and Talented Students

There is a register of such pupils who are monitored by a member of staff.
