Introduction to Boarding
Boarding at The Royal High School offers the best of both worlds by combining the advantages of a happy and secure resident community, with those of a larger, stimulating and exciting academic environment.
Flexibility is important for boarders. Many girls stay at school throughout the term, with breaks at exeat and half term; for others, spending weekends at home is a popular alternative, so we offer weekly boarding as an alternative to full boarding. Frequent communication between school, home and guardians is maintained and girls from overseas are given practical support such as assistance with travel arrangements.
The School welcomes Service families, whose particular needs the experienced house staff are very aware of. There are also special transfer arrangements for girls from other GDST schools who wish to board at The Royal High School. Boarders have full school days and busy evenings and weekends.
Close links between boarders and day girls are encouraged and friendships are formed with pupils of all ages, the resident staff and their families, in an atmosphere which engenders both privacy and companionship. Special emphasis is put on pastoral care by the resident house staff, who also liaise closely with the girls’ academic staff and tutors.
